EMPLOYMENT RESOURCES

"Work is an important gospel principle. It fosters growth and develops us. God condemns idleness, and encourages us to 'do many good things of our own free will' (D&C 58:27). Good employment is important for us to better provide for our families and to serve faithfully in the Church." - LDS.org Gospel Topic, Employment. With generational divides wider than ever, parents, educators, and employers have an urgent need to understand today’s rising generation of teens and young adults. Born in the mid-1990s up to the mid-2000s, iGen is the first generation to spend their entire adolescence in the age of the smartphone. With social media and texting replacing other activities, iGen spends less time with their friends in person—perhaps contributing to their unprecedented levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

PORNOGRAPHY RESOURCES

"Pornography is any depiction, in pictures or writing, that is intended to inappropriately arouse sexual feelings. Pornography is more prevalent in today’s world than ever before. It may be found in written material (including romance novels), photographs, movies, electronic images, video games, social media posts, phone apps, erotic telephone conversations, music, or any other medium.

Physical intimacy is a sacred part of Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness. However, the adversary tries to thwart the Lord’s plan of happiness by suggesting that physical intimacy is only for personal gratification. Pornography is a tool of the adversary and its use causes the Spirit of the Lord to withdraw from us (see Doctrine and Covenants 63:16). - LDS.org Gospel Topic, Pornography. Includes instruction from prophets and apostles, scriptures, manuals, media, teaching outlines and more.

Suicide is a global public health issue that can often be prevented. While it is a complex situation with no single cause, the risks can be reduced when family, friends, ward members, and mental health professionals come together to help those who are struggling. Everyone can play a role in suicide prevention and should learn the risk factors and warning signs. If you or someone you know is considering suicide, please reach out and talk to someone who can provide the right help. - LDS.org Gospel Topic, Suicide. Includes instruction from prophets and apostles, scriptures, manuals, media, teaching outlines and more.

EMERGENCY and DISASTER

Our responsibility is to provide for ourselves and our families both in good times and in bad. Part of fulfilling that obligation is making preparations now to face whatever challenges may come our way.Elder L. Tom Perry instructed, “Start now to create a plan if you don’t already have one, or update your present plan. … The instability in the world today makes it imperative that we take heed of the counsel and prepare for the future.” -LDS.org Gospel Topic, Emergency Prepardness.

PREPARDNESS

Stake and Ward Preparedness Planning
Wards and stakes should prepare for natural and man-made disasters that are likely to occur in their respective areas by creating an emergency plan. These plans are prepared under the direction of the bishop or stake president.

Be Ready Utah
Be Ready Utah is the state’s official emergency preparedness campaign managed by the Utah Department of Public Safety’s Division of Emergency Management (DEM). Personal and family preparedness is the key to survival in, and subsequent recovery from, emergencies and disasters. Increasing that preparedness statewide is our goal. See planning options below:

EARTHQUAKE
Be Ready UtahEarthquakes are a significant threat to Utah. Thousands of earthquakes happen each year in Utah, most too small to be felt. However, the potential for a large, damaging earthquake is very real. Living with earthquakes requires preparation, taking simple steps before an earthquake can limit its threat.

Ready.gov
What do you do during an earthquake? An earthquake is the sudden, rapid shaking of the earth, caused by the breaking and shifting of underground rock. Earthquakes can cause buildings to collapse and cause heavy items to fall, resulting in injuries and property damage. Learn how to respond.

US Department of Homeland Security - FEMA
You live in an area at risk for earthquakes, there are things that you can do to reduce the chances that you or other members of your household will be injured, that your property will be damaged, or that your home life will be unduly disrupted by an earthquake.
